Copy Editing
A Professional Touch
Stage 3: Copy Editing
You've completed your manuscript and you're happy with the content – but does your story reflect your ideas as clearly as you wish it to? Copy editing is when you hand the manuscript over to your editor to dot the i's and cross the t's.
Writing – and often rewriting - your book can lead to text blindess. You've read your work so many times that you no longer see the small errors or missing sentences: Is the sun setting when it should be rising? Has the protagonist suddenly developed new unexplained talents? This is the time to tidy up these minor inconsistencies. Your editor will go through the manuscript tidying up the language and sentences to ensure the text is as clear as it can be.
- In-line edits to improve flow, tone, and delivery
- Fix errors and address inconsistencies
- Ensure language is fit for target audience
- Ensure text layout fits standard styling (UK, US, Aus)
